Nemophila - Evolve Album Review
J-metal band Nemophila are back with their thrid and best album Evolve.
Japanese metal band Nemophila are back with their third album – Evolve. The band have been active since 2019 but have exploded in recent years with their previous albums and steady stream of covers.
I’ve been a fan on them since 2021 but there has always been something that’s stopped me from falling in love with them. That was until the release of Evolve.
Evolve kicks off with Enigma which is one of my favorite tracks. Opening with a thunderous mix of synth and guitars before Mayu’s vocals are unleashed. Mayu’s vocals are the strongest they’ve ever been on the album. A true powerhouse with the raspy screaming working more than it has in the past.
Nemophila have a love for western rock and metal, and they wear it on their sleaves with their covers. They also demonstrate that love with their track Odyssey. A rock ballad akin to Bon Jovi. Mayu bares her soul as they show their versatility.
As mentioned, there is a far bit of synths usage on the album. This perfectly amplifies the instrumentals and adds that magic ingredient to stand out. I love synths when done right and here they are perfect, especially on Night Flight.
Saki and Hazuki are phenomenal forces on guitar providing face shredding riffs and hypnotising solos. You can hear how much fun they are having together. This album is perfectly paced with great production. Haraguchi-San bass and Tamu Murata on drums proving a superb tempo. The bass on ALIVE oozes style while Tamu is unleashed on Justice.
Nemophila have always sounded incredible and with each release evolved. Their third album is by far their best. They are a band on the rise and there seems to be no stopping them. Nemophila are starting 2024 strong and can only go up from here.
